SHA encryption, like MD5 encryption is a one way process that hashes a data string of any length into a 40 character string (SHA1) or a 64 character string (SHA-256). SHA hashes are not reversable and cannot be reverse engineeered (except through known wordlists and brute force). SHA hashing is often used in storing password data or other data that needs to be authenticated against but not retrieved.
